Active Wear Worth A Pretty Penny

If your anything like me, you hate spending money on clothes that your just going to sit around in, run errands in or just hit the gym and get sweaty in.  When shopping for these types of items I typically look for the following qualities to qualify my purchase:

1. Cheap
2. Versatility - Basic and easy to mix and match
3. Basic quality - good stitching, decent fabric and can stand some wear and tear and many washes

Despite these basic three elements of purchase qualification there are specific types of pieces that I won't mind spending a pretty penny on as long as these items hit quality numbers 2 and 3 from above and can also meet the following criteria:

1. Unique - my BFF isn't wearing it and I've never seen it on anyone (with the exception of maybe just a couple strangers)
2. Details - there is something that just stands out about the piece
3. High quality (often associated w/brand for me) - fabric and style looks and feels great on my body

Here are some examples of pieces that hit the mark me.

Spring Dreamin'

Most designers are looking forward to deploying their Spring collections right about now and anticipation sets in to see what the market picks up and what the people on the streets will choose to wear.  Take a look at the style notes that I have so far gathered for Spring 2011 and get a glimpse of the colors and designs that have inspired some of our top rated designers for Spring this year.

Style notes:
Colors: Whites, neutrals and bolds
Style: Sleek not pouncy and a continued feminine look from last year.  Drapes, pleats, lace.
Accessories: Minimal.

City Sleek Boot

These boots were definitely made to hit the streets in.  Carefully designed with leather, second skin overlay and mini spike details make these boots classy, city chic and very wearable.  The natural wood on the black boot is beautiful and gives this boot the perfect stylish edge to be able to carry in stores or wear on the streets for years to come.  Tassel can be snipped off if undesired.  Fantastic boot investment!

My Puffer

This is one of my personal purchases just received.   Designed by Blue Bird, purchased through Anthropologie.  The jacket was a steal and I couldn't pass it up.

It's puffy, warm, of good quality and quite trendy.  The waist of the jacket is elasticized and the buttons are snaps.  Perfect for a winter day out on the streets, paired with jeans and black boots and a splash of color underneath.

Currently sold out.

Style Perspective

This dress by A.L.C. advertised by Shopbop from their Style Perspective campaign is a perfect example of a chic and sophisticated and diversified look.  This dress is loved because it's versatile, striped (I love black & white/grey stripes), and the peek-a-boo in the back is just the unexpected kick to a look that will separate you from all others.

The shoes by Alexander Wang are a perfect match because of its modern design and edgy look - I think it says risk taker all over it.  But many other types of boots and heels can accessorize this dress very well for a more conservative or alternative style approach.

To give this look an over the top or fun look, I would wear a chunky gold or color enamel bracelet with also a chunky stud earring. I'm featuring Betsey Johnson's fun designs below.

To layer, try a black knit open cardigan or sweater that has a short waist and textured black tights.

The Perfect Any Day Leggings

I woke up this morning wanting to wear simple black leggings with my favorite long cashmere sweater and quickly realized that my leggings have been missing for some time now.  I found these simple pair at Ella Moss' online store which I may invest in.
